MINDWALKER: A Brain Controlled Lower Limbs Exoskeleton for Rehabilitation. Potential Applications to Space
نویسندگان
چکیده
MINDWALKER [1] is an EC FP7 funded project which aims at researching, designing and prototyping technologies for the seamless control of a lower limbs exoskeleton, relying on BNCI (Brain Neural Computer Interfaces) technologies. It promotes a non-invasive approach minimizing the cognitive load of the user for controlling the system. This paper first introduces the MINDWALKER projects, its challenges and solutions being considered. Then the paper presents a perspective of how related technologies, which primary application field deals with the rehabilitation of spinal cord injured (SCI) subjects, may be considered for applications in the space domain.

Cable-Driven Robot for Upper and Lower Limbs Rehabilitation
The science of rehabilitation shows that repeated movements of human limbs can help the patient regain function in the injured limb. There are three types of mechanical systems used for movement rehabilitation: robots, cable-driven manipulators, and exoskeletons. Industrial robots can be used because they provide a three-dimensional workspace with a wide range of flexibility to execute differen...
متن کاملCustomizable Rehabilitation Lower Limb Exoskeleton System
Disabled people require assistance with the motion of their lower limbs to improve rehabilitation. Exoskeletons used for lower limb rehabilitation are highly priced and are not affordable to the lowerincome sector of the population. This paper describes an exoskeleton lower limb system that was designed keeping in mind that the cost must be as low as possible. ...
متن کاملAn index finger exoskeleton with series elastic actuation for rehabilitation: Design, control and performance characterization
Rehabilitation of the hands is critical for the restoration of independence in activities of daily living for individuals exhibiting disabilities of the upper extremities. There is initial evidence that robotic devices with force-control-based strategies can help in effective rehabilitation of human limbs. However, to the best of our knowledge, none of the existing hand exoskeletons allow for a...
متن کاملUpper and Lower Exoskeleton Limbs for Assistive and Rehabilitative Applications
Individuals with tetraplegia have loss of motor function in both their upper and lower extremities. Research is being conducted into the development of an exoskeleton to cater for the tetraplegic user. An exoskeleton system has the advantage of assisting disabled or rehabilitating patients without the need of surgery. This paper includes the conceptual design of an upper and lower limb exoskele...
متن کامل“soft” Exoskeletons for Upper and Lower Body
The basic concepts for exoskeletal systems have been suggested for some time with 21 applications ranging from construction, manufacturing and mining to rescue and emergency services. In recent years, research has been driven by possible uses in medi23 cal/rehabilitation and military applications. Yet there are still significant barriers to the effective use and exploitation of this technology....
